Performance

Between them, Mazda6 is the more capable, more fun choice for the Orange Park drive.

  • The 187-horsepower, 2.5-liter SKYACTIV®-G I4 engine that comes standard in Mazda6 Sport trims, delivering 186 pound-feet of torque, graduates to a high-octane SKYACTIV-G 2.5T Dynamic Pressure Turbo I4 in Grand Touring, ready to shell out up to 250 horsepower and 310 pound-feet. Base Q50 trims only put out 208 horsepower and 258 pound-feet, and it can still only achieve up to 295 pound-feet in higher trims.

Mazda6 is also more fuel-economical than Q50.

  • Thanks to a SKYACTIV®-Drive six-speed auto transmission, it can achieve up to 26 mpg in cities like Saint Augustine and 35 mpg down the highway to those like Middleburg, FL or Gainesville in base trims, according to EPA estimates. It can even get up to 23 mpg city and 31 mpg highway in later trims. Q50 base models, on the other hand, can only get up to 23 mpg and 30 mpg respectively, while its later models can only get up to 19 mpg and 27 mpg respectively.

Safety

Mazda6 offers more comprehensive security features, and thus, ultimate peace of mind.

  • Mazda6 Sport features a host of standard driver aids, including blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, an advanced smart city brake support system with pedestrian detection, smart brake support with collision warning, Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Stop & Go, lane-keep assist, and lane departure warning. Mazda6 Grand Touring Reserve incorporates an Adaptive Front-lighting System and Mazda6 Signature builds in a 360-degree view monitor and front and rear parking sensors. Q50, on the other hand, offers blind-spot warning only in higher trims; intelligent cruise control, active lane control, lane departure warning, and adaptive front lights are only available with a ProACTIVE Package, and there are no park sensors offered.

Interior

Mazda6 offers finer luxury details sooner in its lineup than Q50.

  • Mazda6 Touring offers heated, leatherette-trimmed sport seats, Mazda6 Grand Touring Reserve features both ventilated front seats and heated rear seats, and Mazda6 Signature is a little more upscale, with Nappa leather-trimmed sport seats, Sen wood trim inserts in the door and dashboard, Ultrasuede accents, and a sleek black headliner. You'll have to reach the Q50 midrange to get seat heating, neither ventilated front not heated rear seats are offered at all, and Q50 is a premium touch behind on feel, with quilted, semi-aniline leather-appointed sport seats and maple wood highlights but no soft sueded accents.

Technology

Mazda6 is more advanced tech-wise than Q50.

  • Every Mazda6 trim features MAZDA CONNECT™ infotainment with an 8-inch touchscreen standard. Each system incorporates voice command, a multifunction Commander control, HD Radio, Aha, Pandora, and Stitcher internet radio support, and in Mazda6 Touring, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. Q50 offers neither Apple nor Android mobile phone compatibility.
