2018 Mazda6 Sets a Zoom-Zoom Pace With 250-hp Turbo, New Trim, and Premium Upgrades

The current generation of the impressive Mazda6 sedan debuted for the 2014 model year, which in automotive terms, makes it only about half-way through its life-cycle. But the Zoom-zoom name speaks to more than the driving dynamics you’ll find in every one of the brand’s cars, but the pace of improvement. For the third time in nearly as many years, the 2018 Mazda6 has gotten a fresh face, and more neat tricks.

The refreshed Mazda6 made its debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show late last month. Since this generation arrived, it has become a standard bearer of sorts for the automaker’s flowing “KODO” design language, and the latest iteration is just as evocative as ever. The 2018 Mazda6’s silhouette has been preserved, with a bolder front end and headlights that put it in line with the new CX-5.

Other updates on the interior include all-new front seats and a new dashboard design, a 360-degree camera system, and heads-up display. A new Signature trim will top the range, and offer a lavish assortment of amenities, with brown trim leather seats and authentic Japanese Sen wood interior detailing. But this new trim level also highlights one of the most exciting additions yet to the Mazda6 lineup.

This year, a new engine will join the 184-hp 2.5-liter inline-four. While it may not be a V6 some shoppers wanted, the familiar 2.5-liter turbocharged inline-four from the CX-9’s 250 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque is sure to make the already fun-to-drive Mazda6 even more so. Like its crossover sibling, this engine can drink either 87 octane for 227 horsepower, or 93 for the full output.

We look forward to reading the reviews for this exciting new sedan!
