1. Your Gear Shifting Is Erratic
One of the most common signs you are having trouble with your transmission is erratic gear shifting. Erratic gear shifting is often an indication that your transmission control unit (TCU) is damaged if you are driving a Mazda with an automatic transmission.

Odd sounds are another common indication that something is wrong with your transmission. Specifically, you probably have a loose or broken transmission mount if you hear knocking sounds when you change speeds quickly or change gears.
4. Your Transmission Slips
If your transmission slips gears regularly when you drive, there is definitely something wrong with your transmission system. If you come in for a repair in a timely manner, you may only have a gear missing a tooth or two.
