Mazda i-ACTIVSENSE is a comprehensive range of safety systems designed to protect you and your passengers. These systems use radar and cameras to identify dangerous situations and warn you so you can avoid an accident. As your Mazda dealer, we want to explain how some of these systems work.
Exploring Some of the Mazda i-ACTIVSENSE Safety Features
Distance and Speed Alert (DSA)
It’s easy to get too close to another vehicle without thinking about it. DSA helps protect you from harm by displaying a warning icon and sounding a warning tone if you’re closing in on another vehicle. This gives you time to slow down and allow the distance to increase.
Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS)
Inadvertently crossing the lane lines on a road or highway can result in an accident. LDWS uses a forward-sensing camera to identify the lane lines and keep you safely within them until you want to change lanes. When the system detects the lines, an icon of a car with lines on either side will appear on your driving information screen.
If LDWS detects you’re about to unintentionally cross the lane lines, a warning beep sounds, and a warning icon appears on your driver information screen. This system is active at speeds of 40 mph or more, but won’t provide warnings if your direction indicator is on or you’re actively steering.
Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA)
RCTA uses sensors installed in the rear bumper to scan the area directly behind your Mazda and to the sides for vehicles or stationary objects. A warning icon will appear on the corresponding side mirror, another warning will appear on the driver information screen, and a warning tone will sound if a sensor detects something behind you. This gives you enough time to brake and avoid a collision.
Traffic Sign Recognition System (TSR)
It’s easy to miss a traffic sign when you’re concentrating on other vehicles around you. TSR uses a dedicated camera to identify traffic signs and display them on your driver information screen. If your speed is higher than the limit posted on a sign, you’ll hear a warning tone, and the speed limit sign on your screen will flash on and off.
Smart Brake Support (SBS)
The SBS system works with many of your vehicle’s warning alerts and will actively apply the brakes if necessary. It utilizes cameras and sensors to measure the distance to a vehicle, person, animal, or stationary object and then calculates if an accident risk exists. If you receive warning alerts and can’t brake or take evasive action in time, SBS will automatically apply hard braking to almost instantly stop your Mazda.
