The 2025 Mazda CX-50 is a compact crossover with rugged performance and utility. Standard all-wheel drive, roof rails, and a spacious cargo area are just some of the features that outdoor enthusiasts might be drawn to.

4 Features of the 2025 Mazda CX-50 That Attract Outdoor Enthusiasts

All-Wheel Drive Performance

Each trim level of the CX-50 comes standard with Mazda’s advanced i-ACTIV all-wheel drive. This drivetrain uses 27 sensors that monitor weather and road conditions, your driving style, and the traction of each wheel, providing real-time performance adjustments that distribute torque exactly where it’s needed for improved grip on slippery or loose surfaces.

To take you wherever adventure calls, the CX-50 also comes with a range of powerful engines under the hood. Standard on the entry models is a 2.5L naturally aspirated inline-4 engine with 187 horsepower and 185 lb-ft of torque. A turbocharged engine with 256 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque is available on select trims.

Mi-Drive Drive Modes

For enhanced performance on different terrains, each trim also comes with the Mi-Drive technology. Two drive modes, Sport and Off-Road, are standard on the 2.5 S trim levels, while the turbocharged models have an additional Towing drive mode for improved performance when hauling heavy loads.

Smooth shifting performance comes from a SKYACTIV-Drive six-speed automatic transmission with a manual drive mode. This transmission delivers EPA-estimated ratings of 25 MPG in the city and 31 MPG on the freeway.

Impressive Utility

The CX-50 is well-equipped for hauling bulky loads and towing your big toys or an RV. It has a standard cargo capacity of 31.4 cubic feet with all seats upright, while a 60/40 split-folding second-row bench allows you to adjust the cargo and passenger areas. With both seatbacks folded, the cargo area expands up to 56.3 cubic feet.

Standard roof rails make it easy to install crossbars for a cargo carrier or bike rack. The standard engine also provides a towing capacity of 2,000 pounds when the vehicle is properly equipped with genuine towing accessories. If you opt for one of the turbocharged models, the towing capacity goes up to 3,500 pounds.

Rugged Exterior Design

This crossover’s free spirit is highlighted by the rugged exterior design. Standard 17-inch wheels provide stability on asphalt and dirt paths alike. Standard traction control and dynamic stability control systems help maintain the vehicle’s balance in adverse driving conditions, while the G-Vectoring Control Plus system improves the vehicle’s cornering performance.

LED exterior lights with LED daytime running lights provide bright illumination, even when you’re driving through thick woods or on dark trails. The headlights have an automatic on/off feature and high beam control.
